- Dear NC 1031 Committee Members: Thank you all for your patience regarding the final authorization of the NC-1031 meeting in January 2007. Unfortunately, our planned joint meet with the NSF researchers has not materialized so Joseph and I have decided to move forward with our NC-1031 meeting in January. The proposed dates for the meeting are January 22nd and 23rd , 2007. The meeting will be held on the Purdue Campus in West Lafayette Indiana. The meeting will consist of a group dinner on Sunday the 21st, invited speakers on Monday morning on the topic of nanotechnology and biosensors in Food and Agriculture. A tour of the Bindley Biosciences and Birck Nanotechnolgy Center will be arranged for the afternoon on Monday. After the tour the State Reports will begin and continue into Tuesday. We will plan to conclude the meeting by noon or 1:00 pm on Tuesday so folks can still travel home that day. I hope that this schedule meet your needs. I will send out additional planning documents, including hotel possibilities in the near future. We felt that we should get the dates on your calendars ASAP. We look forward to seeing you in Lafayette. Happy Holidays, Vince Bralts NC-1031 Administrative Advisor

- Dear NC 1031 Committee Members:
I recently visited with several Project Managers from USDA and NSF in Washington DC regarding a possible combined meeting of NC-1031 Nanotechnology and Biosensors and NSF Electrical and Communication Systems Division. This type of meeting would allow the intermixing of USDA Nano researchers with NSF Electrical and Communication Systems researchers to learn from each other and to tease out possible joint research possibilities. NSF is particularly interested in the development of nano-level devices and systems with applications in Agriculture, Biology and Food Systems.
The proposed meeting would be held in conjunction with the NC-1031 annual meeting to be held this year at Purdue University. Before moving further on this possibility Hongda Chen has asked me to poll the committee members on the following;
1. Is this something that you would support as an add-on to our annual Committee meeting?
2. Would you still be able to attend a mid-November meeting?
3. Would you be interested in attending a meeting of this type in December, January or February?
4. Would you be interested in working with NSF researchers on Hi-priority, Hi-impact, sensors, devices, networks and systems?
Please send your responses to me at bralts@purdue.edu or josephi@purdue.edu
Thanks ahead for your input.
