- We would like to welcome you to Biloxi, MS for the combined W-2186 and S-1046 annual meeting.
1. Please mark your calendars for Wednesday Oct. 31 through Friday, Nov. 2. 2012 at the Mississippi State University Coastal Research and Education Center in Biloxi, MS. http://msucares.com/crec/main_office.html Members of the W-2186 will begin their meet on Wednesday, to write their 5 year proposal. Thursday the W-2186 and S-1046 will meet together with individual state reports. We will complete our state reports on Friday morning. Please bring any for your graduate students that you would like to. They may also present their favorite findings on their research projects. Late Friday morning we will conclude with the business meeting. We will have a lot of reports to cover so please limit your report to 10 minutes. This will allow everyone to present one if they would like and still have some time for the students.
2. Activities are important for experiencing the Gulf Coast and getting to know your fellow scientists. We have two activities planned for Thursday afternoon. Please look at the two activities and let us know which you would prefer. a. 2.5 hour sailing excursion in the Gulf http://www.maritimemuseum.org/schooners/schooners.php b. 2 hour Eco-tour on the South MS Pascagoula River http://www.ecotoursofsouthmississippi.com/
3. The Gulf Coast is known for its seafood and we are working on the various meal menus. We would like to have a classical southern shrimp boil on Thursday evening. Please email Gary and me, (glawrence@entomology.msstate.edu and lawrekk@auburn.edu) a list of any allergies we need to be award of or any foods you cannot eat. Please let us know if you do not eat fish or meat or if you are a vegetarian.
4. The Biloxi International Airport is located in Biloxi, MS ans is only 10 minutes from the hotels and meeting facility. Please make your airline reservations and email Gary and me your flight numbers and time of arrival, (glawrence@entomology.msstate.edu and lawrekk@auburn.edu). We will provide transportation from the airport to your hotel and to the meeting and back again.
5. There are several nice Hotel Casinos in Biloxi. The Beau Rivage and Hard Rock Hotel are right on the beach. Both are very nice.
